A Practice Built on faith, family, and freedom

In Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where the pace is slower and the mountains feel close enough to touch, Cameron Wharton has built an accounting practice that blends old-fashioned craftsmanship with modern financial support. His approach is intentional, detail-driven, and rooted in the belief that small businesses and individuals deserve a level of care that feels more personal than corporate.

Cam isn’t the accountant who disappears for months or leaves clients waiting for answers. He keeps communication open, steady, and reassuring — the kind of partner who treats your books the way a collector might treat a vintage film reel: with precision, respect, and an eye for every frame.

At Wharton CPA PLLC, he serves the people who make things, build things, film things, and dream things — from content creators to law firms, from homesteaders to families who just need careful, dependable tax help.

What Wharton CPA PLLC Does

Cam and his wife Maria provide a suite of accounting and tax services that feel timeless in their attention to detail:

  • Bookkeeping & Accounting - including meticulous financial statement preparation
  • Payroll Services
  • Tax Preparation - for businesses and individuals
  • Support for Content Creators & Film/Media Professionals
  • Financial guidance for homesteaders & rural small businesses
  • Support for law firms - within the firm or with case needs

No matter the service, Cam’s strength is the same: he looks deeply into the numbers, finds what others miss, and keeps clients informed every step of the way.

A Firm Shaped by Film Reels, Homesteads & Real Human Agency

Cam is a film buff through and through — someone who doesn’t just watch movies, but studies the craft, the composition, the quiet artistic details. That passion for storytelling is what first connected him to the content creation world. He understands the freelance rhythm, the inconsistent income, the creative mindset, and the financial blind spots that often come with it.

Outside the office, Cam and his wife maintain their own homestead, a lifestyle that deepened his respect for independence, sustainability, and the small business spirit. He’s drawn to clients who want to build something that’s theirs, reclaim agency over their work, and take part in the revival of local craftsmanship.

His accounting philosophy mirrors that worldview: empower the individual, support the creator, and keep the books honest and clear.

Why People Choose Cam

  • Painstaking attention to detail — nothing rushed, nothing overlooked
  • Steady communication — no disappearing acts, no surprises
  • Vintage sensibility with modern expertise
  • Earnest support for content creators, filmmakers, and small independent professionals
  • A deep respect for small business owners and homesteaders
  • Reliable, year-round service for families and individuals

Clients come for accuracy, but they stay because of the experience — the thoughtfulness, the steady contact, and the way he treats every return and financial statement like a handcrafted piece of work.

Cameron Wharton, CPA

Cameron is a Certified Public Accountant based in North Idaho, where he lives with his family and carries forward a proud legacy—his family were among the original pioneers  of the Gem State.  Rooted in both tradition and innovation, Cameron brings a thoughtful, client-centered approach to modern accounting.

He earned his Bachelor of Accountancy cum laude from California State University, where he balanced academic excellence with hands-on experience.  While completing his degree, Cameron worked on the finance team at Aerojet Rocketdyne, contributing to the RS-25 rocket project in partnership with NASA—a role that sharpened his analytical skills and exposed him to high-level financial operations.

After graduation, Cameron began building his own practice part-time, and in 2022, he made the leap to full-time entrepreneurship.  Today, he serves individuals and small businesses with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and long-term financial health.

In 2025, Cameron passed his CPA exams with distinction and officially earned his CPA designation—marking a significant milestone in his professional journey.  Whether you're launching a business, managing growth, or simply seeking peace of mind in your finances, Cameron is committed to helping you move forward with confidence.

In early 2026, after the birth of his daughter, Cameron stepped away from his part‑time work with QuickBooks to focus fully on running his firm. The transition allowed him to dedicate all his time and energy to serving his clients and growing his practice with the same clarity, precision, and care that have defined his career.  While still getting to spend time with family.

Maria brings over a decade of experience in legal and financial administration, with a strong foundation in paralegal work and law firm bookkeeping.  Since earning her Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies in 2014, she has worked closely with attorneys and clients, developing a deep understanding of IOLTA account management and proficiency in industry-standard tools like QuickBooks and Clio.

In 2022, Maria expanded her expertise into tax preparation, leveraging her background in legal documentation, income statement creation, and tax form handling.  She joined a local CPA firm in Sandpoint, where she supported a wide range of clients through the complexities of tax the season with accuracy and care.  After that, she began seasonal tax work with Intuit.

In early 2026, after the birth of her daughter, Maria stepped away from her seasonal work with Intuit and transitioned into the role of Tax Manager at the firm. This shift allowed her to bring her full expertise to the practice, serving clients year‑round with the same precision, care, and legal‑financial insight that have defined her career.
